How to 3D Print Replacement BMW E36 & E46 Interior Clips

BMW E36 and E46 chassis are true enthusiast classics, but 20+ year-old interior plastic clips inevitably snap during routine maintenance, stereo installations, or door card removals. Dealerships frequently charge excessive fees for replacement plastic or declare parts NLA (No Longer Available).

The 3 Most Common Failing BMW Clips

  1. Door Card Retaining Clips: Often brittle from heat.
  2. Parcel Shelf & Pillar Bushings: Subject to constant sun exposure.
  3. Switch Blank Plates & Coin Trays: Loose or cracked tabs.

Slicing & Printing Recommendations

  • Recommended Filament: PETG or ASA (Never use standard PLA; it will deform inside a hot car during summer).
  • Print Orientation: Orient the clip horizontally so layer lines run perpendicular to the snapping force.
  • Layer Height: 0.16 mm for precise tab tolerance.
  • Infill: 100% Solid Infill for small tabs and hooks.
